TV SoundOff: Sunday Talking Heads

Who thinks we need a law to make English the official language of government. What American legislature is conducting business in some other language? And then he says that bureaucracy is destructive, after suggesting we bureaucratize the speaking of English. Dear, oh dear.

But, too much talk about issue! Must talk about horse races! Gingrich says Romney has more delegates than anyone–I think that's wrong, actually! Yes. I am right. Here's the delegate count. Note Romney's use of Enron accounting. Also note that this story comes from ABC News! You'd think maybe someone there would tell Stephanopoulos that his own news division has a different answer.

Gingrich thinks the "open" Hillary is better than the "austere" Hillary, and that it was strange to identify herself with LBJ.

4 Parish homes up for grabs

Consequently, investigators have spent months sorting out ownership claims on the real estate.

"We originally thought that we'd certainly get a few hundred thousand dollars out of these properties, but everything's a mess," Dantzler said. "Unraveling this has cost tens of thousands of dollars. And then you get to the end of the rainbow and it's a dry hole. It's just unbelievable."

Parish listed all four properties as collateral for a $2.5 million loan from the National Bank of South Carolina, none of which has been repaid.

He also used a house at Edisto Beach as collateral to secure a loan for an Internet business in which he owned a 10 percent stake. NBSC, which granted the loan, has a $610,000 lien on the property over that agreement.

Bank of America also has a lien on the Edisto Beach house over $465,489 outstanding from another unpaid loan to Parish.

Central banks have lost control, business leaders warn Davos

Business leaders at the annual World Economic Forum have urged the US and other central banks to get a grip on the global economy, with some accusing America's Federal Reserve Bank of losing its nerve.

With share prices tumbling again despite an emergency US interest-rate cut on Tuesday to counter recession fears, alarm was expressed by executives at the gathering in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos.

Financier George Soros said central banks had lost control, echoing the concerns of many among more than 2 000 business and political leaders attending the meeting.

In a debate on the US economy, 59% of participants agreed with a motion that central bankers had lost control.

Another panel agreed that a lack of international economic policy co-ordination was the biggest risk to the world economy in 2008.

Your Comments : Do it my way: Bainimarama

There are definitely a mountain to climb, a river to cross,a desert before the next oasis, tip toeing through the snakes and cobras, through the storm BUT NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE REMAIN INTACT. The INTERIM GOVERNMENT AND PMFRANK are resolute and keeping it focussed in their approach. The are elements of determination in taking the country forward. We are repeating holy bible Noah days of bulding the ARK. Noah was able to liquidate the pressure mounting on him in the course of bulding the ark.The amazing story of Noah's Ark was that the ark was not built on the sea front like Walu Bay or the famous ship slip way in Glasgow, England. The Ark was built on mount Ararat in a middle of a continent. NOAH WAS CALLED Foolhardy, Insane, foolishness, idiotic, shamefulness, illiterate, madness,BACKWARDNESS etc, etc, etc, etc, goes the intimidation and scorns from the people who live in that village, town and city as the building of the Ark WAS NOT NORMAL,and the building site was humanly impossible to make the first TITANIC AND giant of SHIP afloat.

The Super Tuesday Strategy Guide

Unlike the Republicans, the Democratic National Committee awards all delegates on a proportional basis. That means Hillary and Obama are likely to pick up delegates in each of the 22 states. Edwards, meanwhile, is a wild card. He'll only receive delegates in a state if he clears the 15 percent viability threshold. If that happens, look for the tight race between Hillary and Obama to get even tighter, since they'll have trouble winning by huge margins. In which case, the contest is likely to extend well beyond Feb. 5.

Hillary Clinton: The proportional-delegate system doesn't help the national frontrunner because she can't rack up a commanding delegate lead. So, for Clinton, Feb. 5 is about maximizing her advantage in states that already favor her. She owns the tri-state delegate behemoth of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut (468 delegates total).

'Gosh, I'm Bitchy Today'

It did not present a realistically scary picture of modern American corporate culture. (Do you really think lawyers would kill for, say, Monsanto? I don't.) On the other hand, this is a truly terrifying picture of modern American corporate culture. ... 1:07 A.M.

In case you missed Joe Wilson's assh .... I mean, Joe Wilson's Joe Wilson moment on 60 Minutes:

Mr. JOE WILSON: It was a Mafia-like tactic. And the idea of going after your family, even in Washington, was an outrage. Nobody went after Karl Rove's family, nobody went after "Scooter" Libby's family. They went after my family.

COURIC: In all fairness, Karl Rove's wife doesn't work for the CIA.

Mr. WILSON: How do you know?

COURIC: "Scooter" Libby's wife doesn't...

Don’t wait ’til the midnight hour

The clock is ticking for the estimated two million taxpayers who have yet to meet the January 31 deadline for handing in their self-assessment forms for the year 2006-07. There are only five days left until the cut-off point at midnight on Thursday, by which time tax returns must have reached the Revenue, along with any money due.

The customary last-minute scramble could be made even more chaotic this year by the possibility of a strike by civil servants on January 31, which may result in the closure of some tax offices. In addition, some taxpayers whose homes have been blighted by last year’s floods may have lost their financial records.

The Revenue has promised to do everything possible to keep offices open before and on deadline day and to assist those who have lost vital records.
