Would I Lie to a Robot?

Race doesn't enter the equation.

How can Obama peel off some of those white women voters? I don't think repudiating race-based affirmative action does it. I think the only way he can do it is break the strong sense of identification that allows the above narrative to work, i.e. the strong link between how women perceive their own careers and how they perceive Hillary's candidacy. Right now they're one and the same.

The answer is one word: Oprah ...

Hmm. I'm not even sure Oprah is up to that task. Meanwhile it would be nice, if you were Obama, to win a majority of white men, no? A bold anti-race-preference move--assuming the hints he's dropped reflect his actual beliefs--might help him do that. Even a statement that this is the direction he thinks the nation should be moving would make a big difference, you'd expect.

Defense, ha! Playoffs reward playmakers

Forget defense. In high school football, playmakers win championships.

That's what I carried away from the latest Georgia Dome semifinals.

By Dec. 9, everybody that's left plays good defense. But how do you score against these defenses that get off blocks and chase runners and quarterbacks faster than I can ever remember it? Playmakers.

What was the difference between Northside and Tucker? Marques Ivory.

The difference between North Gwinnett and Walton? Mike Tamburo and his sure-handed receivers.

ECI and Clinch County? Washaun Ealey.

Wilcox County and Athens Academy? The Dennard twins.

Carver and Chamblee? DeRon Furr and Jarmon Fortson.

There's only one team left that can win the title primarily with defense, and that's Lowndes, and I'm curious to see that matchup — North Gwinnett's spread offense and the pinpoint passing of Tamburo against the state's best defense.

Wish I could get a do over (or two, or three, or more …)!

He loses the ball or gets stripped every time. When that Jumper is off he has to contribute more like yesterday. Overall it was a good win -we just have to learn how to play with a huge lead and not let teams back in the game. Im predicting an upset over Denver tomorrow

The Subprime Blame Game: Where Were the Realtors?

A good agent, in order to get the job done and help the person buy or sell ... is going to do whatever has to be done to [accomplish that]." In his view, an agent working for the seller might be free to suggest that the buyer get professional help with lending issues, but a seller's agent should not give advice on the pros and cons of different types of loans.

The NAR has a consumers' brochure describing the pros and cons of various loans, and another one warning home buyers about predatory lending. But Lischer said he did not know how many agents hand the brochures out. The NAR also has a lengthy code of ethics which calls for agents to "treat all parties honestly" and to "protect and promote the interests of their client," whether the client be buyer or seller. Since it is usually the seller, a realtor could run afoul of the code by warning a buyer off a particular loan and killing a deal.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

CONSUMER ADVICE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Since the mid-1990s, there has been a noticeable improvement in Greece's public transportation systems, including the ferry networks serving the islands. Bus and trolley routes are now served by new fleets, while a new mass transit system in Athens - the metro - has helped relieve congestion in the capital's centre.

The 2004 Olympics provided the impetus for improvements in public transport, which include the reintroduction of the tram as a link between the southern coastal suburbs and downtown Athens.

Tram

The tram has three lines: from Neos Kosmos (metro station) to Hellenic Olympic Complex (Agios Kosmas) and from Glyfada to the Peace and Friendship Stadium (alongside the Faliro Sports Complex). The third line runs from Syntagma to Glyfada.

Inland homeowners ponder refinance timing

Mortgage holders wanting to trade an unwieldy adjustable-rate mortgage for the certainty of a fixed rate are rushing to refinance in large numbers since the Federal Reserve's surprise rate cut earlier this week.

In the past two weeks, Bank of America has seen a strong and accelerating increase in refinance applications, said bank spokesman Terry Francisco. Last week, applications were up 193 percent from a year earlier. The week before, they were up 82 percent, he said.

The same is true for online brokers.

"We started getting a few calls last week, but on Tuesday (when the Federal Reserve Board announced its rate cuts) it was like a tidal wave," said Jeff Lazerson, president of Mortgage Grader, an online mortgage broker.

He said that most callers had adjustable mortgages scheduled to reset to a higher interest rate.
