Djokovic fells the giant and prepares for unknown

It was a tiny gesture but one that spoke volumes about Djokovic's confidence, signifying his feeling of equality with the great man - obviously not in terms of achievements and titles won but regarding the here and now. The 20-year-old clearly felt he was ready to bring Federer's run of 10 successive grand slam finals to an end but nobody was prepared for the nature of the 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 defeat.

Md. mortgage fee lawsuit reinstated

A ruling yesterday from the state's highest court over prepayment mortgage charges could make it more expensive for some to obtain home equity loans, the banking industry's trade association warned.

The Maryland Court of Appeals found that state-chartered Provident Bank assessed a "prepayment charge" that's not allowed under state law. The bank had waived $680 in closing costs on a $17,000 loan to Andrew Bednar in 2003 but collected the money after the loan was paid off early when he refinanced with another lender two years later.

The ruling overturns a decision by Baltimore Circuit Court to dismiss the lawsuit against Provident.

College Publishes Famed Killer's Diary

After a brief romance, Brown became pregnant. In a series of emotional letters, Brown implored the reluctant Gillette to marry her. His responses were cold and flippant.

In July 1906, the pair took a trip to the Adirondack Mountains -- Brown still hoping for a marriage proposal. Instead, Gillette took her on an afternoon boat ride on Big Moose Lake, where prosecutors said he hit her in the head with a tennis racket, causing her to fall into the lake and drown.

There were no eyewitnesses but Gillette was convicted on circumstantial evidence, despite his claim that Brown had drowned accidentally and he had panicked and fled.

The story might have faded from public interest if not for Dreiser's 1925 novel the later movie version which won six Academy Awards.

Microsoft opens personal health record site

But the software maker must still grapple with whether sharing data exposes it to greater financial risk in the event that hackers get their hands on confidential medical data.

Many state-level security breach notification laws have been passed in the last couple of years, giving identity theft victims the ability to sue companies whose systems are hacked or whose computers are stolen, Hirsch said. The health care industry is just one U.S. sector that's treading lightly as a result.

Some of the best sources of comprehensive health records data, major insurance companies, haven't agreed to build applications that work with HealthVault. But even if Microsoft were able to get providers and insurance companies to feed data into HealthVault, it's not clear consumers will use it.

In addition to banks, 2 brokerages are using mobile signatures for confirming trades: Ak Yatirim, Finans Invest; 2 municipalities (Fatih, Sisli) and 3 e-government services (Customs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice) use mobile signatures for user authentication and digital form signing.

Nationwide marketing campaigns feature full-page ads in magazines; and financial instutions advertise their mobile signature service in daily newspapers.

BSP eases rules on bank branching

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Friday removed more restrictions on bank branching to encourage credit retailing to small borrowers and to give banks more flexibility in their non-banking services.

The policy-making monetary board approved a set of measures extending the scope of the BSP's bank branching liberalization to small banks catering to small and medium-scale borrowers as well as those engaged in micro-financing.

The central bank also eased rules on bank branching for large high-rated and well-capitalized banks, waiving requirements not related to prudential regulations and making it easier for them to outsource some of their backroom services.
