| Venus tips Daz to dazzle for Posh
Darren has got big expectations to live up to on this side of the business because of his father. "He might never reach what his dad has achieved but I think he will be a success in the job and I think time will prove him to be his own man. "That's the lad he was when I was with him. He was always his own person and I'm sure that's what he will be as a manager. "I think the biggest pressure is probably from himself. Having a father who has achieved so much probably means you put pressure on yourself to do as well as you can. "Pressure other people put on him will probably not be as big as the pressure he puts on himself. But he is doing well. I imagine he is someone who will tell you the truth but demand of you and want you to achieve." Venus insisted the Baggies would like a cup run even though regaining their Premier League status is the main priority.
Wine, women and snogs
The latest show from the National Theatre of Scotland is being created by some of the country's most celebrated talents. Starring Cumming and Tony Curran, both of whom have successful careers in America, the play is directed by John Tiffany, who staged the phenomenon that is Black Watch. Euripides wrote The Bacchae shortly before his death in 406BC, and it was performed the following year at the Dionysia, the Athenian drama festival, where it took first prize. The play concerns Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and theatre, whose late mother Semele was a member of the Theban ruling family and whose father Zeus is king of the Gods. As the play begins, Dionysus is returning to Thebes after seducing and converting much of what we now know as the Middle East. .
Avoiding Big Hit for Once, Credit Suisse Holds Promise
It has almost become a maxim on Wall Street: When markets implode, the debris will crash down on top of Credit Suisse Group. From the "burning bed" bridge loan in 1989 to the Russian ruble collapse in 1998 to the dot-com stock bust of 2000, Credit Suisse and its former First Boston securities unit made millions of dollars during the boom only to lose all or most of it in the bust. So when Credit Suisse Chairman Walter Kielholz and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. chief Lloyd Blankfein, met over breakfast recently and noted their firms' sidestepping of the subprime-mortgage crisis, ... .
Keeping it Real
According to Hartwell, “The purpose of CiC is to promote visual art in Egypt through both photography and video." The CiC hosts lectures, exhibitions, film screenings and workshops in addition to maintaining the darkroom, which is open solely for black and white (B&W) photograph development every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12–5pm. According to Mohammed El-Maymony, a CiC photographer, very few people use the darkroom — especially Egyptians. “Visitors to the darkroom are mainly foreigners who also have their own darkrooms at home, and that was not the objective behind having a darkroom. Our main objective is to attract the public and educate them about the uses of the darkroom." “We're finding that there are people out there who want to use the darkroom, but we haven't really tapped it in the market," Hartwell explains, “We'll give it another six months, and if we find that we don't have a lot of people coming in to use it enough we might make a smaller darkroom because we need more space." At the moment, CiC provides visitors with equipment required for developing film, including 35 millimeter (mm) and 120mm film tanks, reels, a washer and a dryer, as well as an enlarger for printing.
Los Angeles Clippers (13-26) at Memphis Grizzlies (12-31), 8 p.m.
The Clippers swept all three meetings with the Grizzlies in 2006-07 and recorded a 98-91 decision when these teams squared off at FedEx Forum last month.Memphis may also be coming into the game shorthanded, as standout center Pau Gasol sat out Friday's 104-93 loss at Washington with an ailing back and is questionable to play in tonight's tilt.Gasol, who has averaged 23.4 points and 11.4 rebounds over his last seven games, could be joined on the bench tonight by teammate Mike Conley. The rookie point guard left last night's contest in the third quarter with a chest contusion and is considered day-to-day.Mike Miller sank five three-pointers en route to a 21-point effort for the Grizzlies in Friday's defeat, the team's second in a row and eighth in 10 games. Kyle Lowry took over for Conley and finished the night with 13 points and a career-high 10 assists. The Clippers come in off Friday's 111-92 road setback to Southwest leader New Orleans.
Abu Dhabi: East Leans West
This ambitious venture raises difficult questions. Did Dubai's unsuccessful 2006 effort to buy a company that operated six U.S. ports, which infuriated many American politicians, increase Abu Dhabi's emphasis on cultural outreach? Further, culture has always followed money—where would Florence have been without the Medicis?—but can money really buy culture? That is, will the museums and campuses and theaters edify and enlighten not only the 3 million yearly “cultural tourists" whom Abu Dhabi hopes to attract by 2015, but also the UAE's 825,000 citizens? The government promoters have no doubt. The complex, they feel, is essential to closing what one advisor calls the “knowledge gap" between Abu Dhabi and the West and countering Islamist extremism. “We want an impact on our society, not just on visitors," says the American-educated al-Muhairi over cappuccinos topped with chocolate and gold flakes at the majestic Emirates Palace Hotel.
New Taliban chief entering limelight
The move is an attempt to present a united front against the Pakistani army, which has been fighting insurgents along the border with Afghanistan. It is also the latest sign of the rise of Mehsud, considered the deadliest of the Taliban mullahs or clerics in northwest Pakistan. Mehsud is based in the rugged, heavily treed mountains of South Waziristan, one of Pakistan's so-called tribal areas on the border with Afghanistan, where Western intelligence says al-Qaida is regrouping. His organization has claimed responsibility, often backed up by videos, for killing and kidnapping hundreds of soldiers, beheading women and burning schools that teach girls anything other than religion. He also claims he has a steady supply of suicide bombers and strong ties to al-Qaida. "Al-Qaida has succeeded in building a base in the last two or three years mostly with help from Mehsud," said Ahmed Zaidan, a reporter for Al-Jazeera Television in Qatar who interviewed Mehsud three weeks ago.
