No interim AD announced

I'm not a Husker fan, but living here my entire life, its hard not to know what is going on with the team. Personally, I don't think it is fair to put pressure for Tom to come back and 'save the day.' Granted, he was an excellent coach and has done numerous things for this state, on and off the field, however, Bill is still there and its not fair to him to bring in someone to 'oversee' his every move. NU signed the contract, now they have to deal with the consequences. Let Bill finish out his season and start focusing what the next step is.

Regents eye 3.2% tuition hike

The Iowa Board of Regents voted 5-to-3 to give initial approval to 2008-09 tuition increases that average 3.2 percent.

Regent President Michael Gartner lobbied for lower increases of 2 percent to signal appreciation to the Iowa Legislature, which granted the universities their full budget request of $65 million earlier this year.

My own view is that we could do something for the students and the parents by holding it down in this coming year and see what the legislature does (next year), Gartner said.

The presidents of the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa said the average 3.2 percent hike would barely keep up with increasing operating costs. The 3.2 percent increase is the lowest for Iowas public universities since 1980.

Ego-free Craddock is hero

Perhaps now, the last of Wolves' defensive doubters will finally fall silent, writes Mark Douglas.

The Molineux back four has been much maligned at various points this season but you wouldn't have found a single dissenter in the 2,600-strong away support yesterday after the defenders passed their biggest test of the season at Fortress Hawthorns.

The school of thought that Wolves' defensive strength would be undermined the instant it was pitted against the speed and movement of Albion's front five was found to be fatally flawed on an afternoon when their unsung hero once again rose to the fore.

No, not Wayne Hennessey – although the unassuming goalkeeper fully deserved to have his name sung from the rafters for the first time after foiling the rapier-sharp Albion attack with two superb point-blank second-half stops.

The Perfect Blend: Flynne Meares Loves the Coffee Shop Scene

Flynne Meares is a morning person. Every day, she rises at 5 a.m. to go for a walk before heading downtown to open up her coffee shop on North East Broad Street.

She never bothers brewing herself a pot of java at home -- she has all the caffeine she needs to get her going at work.

"I'm not a Maxwell House or Sanka kind of girl," she says. "I guess I'm rather a snob that way. I just wait until I get to the shop to have my coffee."

Meares purchased her small business, which she calls Flynne's Coffee Bar, in September 2006, on what most would call a whim. She had been interested in owning her own coffee shop but had thought she would settle somewhere along the coast. .

Who's Blogging

Though gloomy forecasts abound, most prognosticators have said that any U.S. downturn should be mild. And continued strong growth in Europe and Asia was supposed to offset a U.S. slump. Some investors told reporters that the markets were reacting to President Bush's unveiling of a $145 billion anti-recession plan Friday. Rather than reassuring people, the announcement was taken as official confirmation that bad times are indeed ahead. Then it was sell, sell, sell.
