BAIJI, Iraq, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- At least seven people were killed by a car bomb Saturday near northern Iraq's largest oil refinery.

The bombing in Baiji, in Salahuddin province, came a day after attacks in the neighboring province of Diyala killed at least 26 people, the BBC reported Saturday.

The attack in Baiji targeted housing for security forces guarding oil installations. The dead included at least four guards and three civilians, the BBC said.

Baiji, about 155 miles north of Baghdad, is a key transfer point for crude oil being exported from Iran. The area has seen a sharp rise in violence as insurgents have been routed from Baghdad by an increased U.S. troop presence, the BBC reported.

The only place that has "outstanding" wind resources in Marin County is in the Point Reyes National Seashore, a location where support for wind power could be an uphill climb. There are locations throughout the county, nevertheless, that could support "small wind turbines," a category that refers to machines less than 100 kilowatts in size, and which typically are 10 kilowatts or less. "Unless you are a geek, and want to tinker with your turbine two or three times a year, small wind is not too appealing of an option for the vast majority of people in Marin County," concluded Williard.

Mark Pasternak of Devil's Gulch Ranch in Nicasio is the most bullish on local wind power. He purchased a 35-kilowatt V-15 wind turbine about two years ago. Like Stubbs, Pasternak first lived "off-the-grid" and relied upon a 2-kilowatt wind turbine between 1971 and 1982.

Clear Channel, potential buyers say deal isn't at risk of falling ...

It's no surprise that the spread between Clear Channel Communications Inc.'s share price and the proposed private equity buyout price is fueling speculation that the massive deal could fail.

But both Clear Channel and a representative of its private equity buyers maintain the $27.4 billion deal isn't at risk of falling apart, even though the company's stock currently is trading about 14 percent lower than its buyout price.

And the Federal Communications Commission on Thursday formally approved the deal, so Department of Justice approval is the only regulatory hurdle that remains. That approval could come in as little as 30 days, according to Bear Stearns equity analyst Victor Miller.

"We're on track to close the transaction in the first quarter 2008," Clear Channel Chief Executive Officer Mark Mays said Thursday.

Prolific burglar avoids jail

He was remanded in custody and asked for a further 69 to be taken into consideration by the courts.

His sentence was deferred for six months while he is on the C2 programme.

If he breaches the conditions of C2, by re-offending or taking illegal drugs, he faces being sentenced fully for all of the offences he admitted.

Detective Superintendent Jane Swinburne, a leading specialist at Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: "the object of the scheme is to turn around the lives of offenders so they are able to halt their pattern of offending and inflicting misery on the people of Hertfordshire."

Candidates must actively participate in the programme attending regular drug tests and interim court hearings.

If C2 is successfully completed a judge can consider giving a non-custodial sentence which would include supervision for up to three years.

Not to be outdone, Curt Schilling continues to shill for John McCain. Writing this week on his blog - 38pitches.com - the Sox pitcher implored people to vote for the Arizona senator, but also had a kind word for Obama, whom Schill called "the other person of unparalleled character in this upcoming election."

Serious slowdown predicted for U.S. economy

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Serious slowdown, though not recession, was predicted for the U.S. economy on Saturday as political and business leaders were ready to wrap up their annual gathering at the Swiss skiing resort of Davos.

The World Economic Forum, which was kicked off here Wednesday, was clouded this year by mounting concern over the U.S. economic outlook in the aftermath of the sub-prime mortgage market crisis, with some economists even warning the U.S. economy is headed for a recession.

"Whatever the answer is on a recession, what is clear is there will be a serious slowdown" in the United States, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, managing director of the International Monetary Fund(IMF), said at a panel discussion on the economic outlook this year, calling for a serious response.

Scottish Government to block wind farm plan

The Scottish Government will reject plans to build a 181-turbine wind farm on the Isle of Lewis, according to the BBC's Gaelic news service Radio nan Gaidheal.

The £500m project, proposed by Lewis Wind Power, was approved in February 2007 by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) members, who voted 18 to eight in favour.
